- CATALOGUE NOTE : The Buddhist deity, also known as Achala, The Immovable, is depicted in his characteristic kneeling posture with lower lip sucked in and fangs showing. Although there are a number of shrines to the deity in the Kathmandu Valley, this early paubha is a rare surviving representation of the deity. A later depiction of Chandamaharoshana in union with his consort Dveshavajri, dating to around 1525-50, is in the Zimmerman Collection, see Pratapaditya Pal, Art of the Himalayas: Treasures from Nepal and Tibet, New York, 1991, cat. no. 38.
