This depiction of Avalokiteshvara, richly decorated with precious stones, shows him as Shadakshari Lokeshvara, the personification of the mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum”. In this form, it appears in four arms in the meditation seat (Varjasana). He folds his front hands in the Manidharamudra (holding the desired jewel), with the others he holds a prayer chain made of 108 pearls and a lotus (symbol of purity).
This sculpture was made of Avalokiteshvara in front of an open Prabhavali (“Rays of Peace”). The body of the figure and the base are decorated with gemstones. Prabhāvali, umbrella and prayer beads are loose.
