Deaccessioned by The Virginia House Museum to benefit future preservation, acquisitions, and care of collections. The sturdy build of the figures, the relative simplicity of ornament, and the general modeling of the face all suggest a 10th-12th century date. Compare the much larger repoussé plaque of similar arched silhouette, deriving from Pala models, depicting Vishnu seated on Garuda, dated 1004, in Pratapaditya Pal et al, Art of the Himalayas, Treasures from Nepal and Tibet, Japan, 1991, pp. 46-47, no. 10.
