Seated goddess

Seated goddess

The goddess sitting here on a lotus cushion with large flower earrings, a tiara and a jewellery chain was originally four-armed. This is probably one of the eight goddesses (Ashtamatrikas) particularly revered in Nepal. They are the personified powers of different gods, help in the fight against demons and thus act as protectors of cities and people, both in Hinduism and Buddhism.
