Framed by an elaborate leaf-shaped nimbus, the Buddha stands on the double lotus pedestal with a slight sway. His left hand grasps part of his cloak while his right is lowered in the gesture of bestowing gifts. His head is surrounded by an elegant halo. The style of this piece reflects the Pala tradition; however, the sweet facial expression and graceful movement indicate a Nepalese provenance. The blue-painted hair further signifies that the piece was once under worship in Tibet.
