The Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara

The Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara

The youthful figure, wearing a five-leaf crown and a tight-fitting garment with elaborate pleats, stands with a slight sway on a lotus pedestal. His right-hand makes the gesture of bestowing gifts, and his left, resting on his side, once held an attribute. Typical of Nepalese sculpture, the god is depicted as a young and handsome figure with a smiling face. The sculpture was once gessoed and painted.
