- Lot Essay : The present watercolour is a rare example of Nepalese School Company Painting. For a single portrait of the Maharaja, see M. Archer, Company Drawings in the India Office Library, London, 1972, p. 250, no. 203. The watercolour in the India office library, by a Nepalese artist, is a copy of an oil portrait of the Maharaja, presented to the East India Company by the Maharaja during his visit to England in 1850 and was probably executed just before he left for England.
