The Buddha, in monastic garb, sits and meditates on a lotus. Prominent are some of the marks that distinguish him from ordinary men: distended earlobes, which once held heavy earrings when he was a prince; the Urna, a tuft of hair between his eyebrows signifying his penetrating insight; and the Ushnisha, a bump of wisdom growing from his head. With his right hand he touches the earth, asking it to witness the moment of his Enlightenment.
