  • Provenance : Property from the Collection of the Bangdel-Shakya Estate, Virginia, USA.
  • Footnotes : Bangdel's experiments with abstraction began in earnest when he lived in Europe in the 1950s, and would be fully realized after moving to Nepal in 1961. In Europe, Bangdel met renowned Western artists like Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, and visited many museums, but remained deeply nostalgic for Nepal, with the Himalayan peaks serving as a muse for many of his works. Painted in Paris, this wispy watercolor divides the composition between a sapphire sky and snow crowned peaks, which melt into the paper. The genesis of the artist's abstract painting can also be traced back to the high altitude barrier that separated him from his ancestral homeland.
