Reflection of Old Age

Reflection of Old Age

Made during the 1950s when the artist was still living in Europe, the style of this work shows the influence of Picasso’s Blue Period. Based on the poem “Muna Madan” written by a Nepali poet and novelist Laxmi Prasad Devkota, the work portrays the pathos of Nepalese people in the lowest strata of society. Muna stands on the right accompanied by a mother of her lover, Mudan, who has gone to Tibet for work. Bangdel was the first artist to introduce modern art to Nepal.
