Indra, King of the Gods, is a brahmanical deity much venerated in Nepal. His special features are the gem-encrusted crown, the horizontal eye on his forehead, and the thunderbolt resting on a lotus held in his right hand. Here he sits relaxed in the posture of royal ease, with his arm around his consort Indrani.
